"Purple Iris"

8 x 10", oil on illustration board

 In a private collection.

One of the greatest pleasures I get as an artist is to observe the natural world up close: in this case, taking the time to really "look" at a flower.  To draw, and paint a picture of a subject like this, is such a wonderful  way to expand one's appreciation of the design and intricacies of nature.  The versatility of oil paint is such that it can be thinned-down to handle much like water colour, allowing me to achieving a high degree of delicate detailing.
