One Morning before sunrise one July morning I packed a sketch pad and a camera in my nap sack and headed out into the countryside. I was looking for an inspiring scene. On the edge of the Grand River down by Kaufman's Flats, I found one.

That morning as I stood watching the sun rise, the landscape before me reflected a tremendous sense of peace and quiet. I did some sketches; I took some pictures but mostly I just drank in that serene vision.

Back in my studio I looked over that day's sketches and photographs, and remembered the way it felt that morning on the river. Following those remembered feelings I created a painting, the result was "A Grand Dawn".

My desire would be that this painting conveys to you, the viewer, a sense of that peace and quiet.
