"Red
Admiral
Butterfly" 10
x 12 inches oil on canvas mounted
to hardboard
(
Portrait Category)

I was out about looking for interesting landscapes
to paint when, looking directly to my left I spied this
butterfly alighted upon some flowers. At the time I had no
idea what kind it was but of courses later, in my studio I
looked it up and learned a little more about the natural
world we live in.

"Dandelions
Edge" 10
x 12 inches oil on canvas mounted
to hardboard
(
Landscape Category)

At the foot of a cascading waterfall by the Elora Mill, I
saw these familiar yellow flowers of the dandelion hanging
on tenaciously to a rocky outcropping. Of course it
quickly dawned on me that this might make an interesting
subject in a painting.

"View
over the Gorge" 12
x 20 inches oil on canvas mounted
to hardboard
(
Landscape Category)

I think of myself as a "Portrait Artist",
however for me such a title includes more than the painting
of people or pets. In "View over the
Gorge" I have painted the portrait of a geological
outcropping that is, in its own way, as unique as any image
of a person or animal, or so it seems to me.

"Redwing
Blackbird" 12
x 16 inches oil on canvas mounted
to hardboard
(
Portrait Category)

On my daily walk down by the creek, I came across this
fellow when to my
delight he landed not more than 15 feet to my right, it took
only a moment for me to realize that here might be a
possible art subject.
I usually carry
my D-LSR camera with me while on my daily constitutional and
I carry it in a bag that allows me an almost gunslinger
capability to draw it out and start shooting. Lucky for me I
had it poised to take a shot when this male blackbird with his bright
red wing edges, landed, and offered himself up for my portrait
considerations.

"?" 30
x 25 inches oil on Linen
(Portrait Category)

Portraits of people are particularly challenging
and doubly so when one wants to include an interesting yet
subdued background scenery.

"First
Day of Spring" 10
x 12 inches oil on canvas mounted
to hardboard
(Landscape Category)

The scene you see here is much like what greeted me
upon my walk on March 20th along a country lane in the Grand
Bend area. The fields where bare but for a few patches
of snow here and there with the recent melt filling the low
spots. Above me small flocks of Canada geese flew overhead,
along with the awakening land the sounds of birds began to
stir the air and a gentle breeze carried the pleasant smells
of springs arrival.

"Mallard
Duck" 8
x 10 inches oil on canvas
mounted
to hardboard
(Painting
A Day Category)

The iridescent green feathers upon the male mallard
ducks head caught my eye one day while upon my walk down by
the creek where I live . . . a good subject for a study I
thought, and a nice little painting to add to the roster
here.

"Tomato
# 1" 5
x 6 inches oil on canvas mounted
to hardboard
(Painting
A Day Category)

This little study was done from direct
observation. Tomato, a pleasure to paint, and of course even
better to eat.

"Over
Ripe Onion" 5
x 6 inches oil on Linen canvas mounted
to hardboard
(Painting

This little gem came out of my cold cellar. To ripe
for cooking it served well as a model for this small
study.

"Blair
Bridge" 10
x 12 inches oil on canvas
mounted
to hardboard
(Painting
A Day Category)

I came across the ruin of this century old bridge last
year, the Blair bridge was little more than a small trail
bridge over an equality small creek. The trail is now
reclaimed by the surrounding forest and all that remains of
it is the arch of this bridge.
